They’ve earned national acclaim through performances at major festivals, broadcasts, and venues, including a 2023 Carnegie Hall debut noted as their leap from “regional excellence to national recognition” (Gramophone). Known for their expressive power and technical brilliance, they’ve collaborated with artists including Karoly Schranz, David Kim, Paul Neubauer, Alexander Markov, Julie Coucheron, Ramona Pansegrau and David Krakauer. Hailed as “Kansas City’s Gem of a Quartet” by the Kansas City Star, the ensemble has appeared in a wide variety of venues, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Cincinnati Music Hall, Kaufman Center for the Performing Arts, the Midwest Trust Center and at the OK Mozart Festival.
The Opus 76 Quartet’s discography is extensive, including the complete cycle of Beethoven quartets and recordings of works by Brahms, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Haydn, Bartok and Schubert. Their recordings of Mozart’s “Six Quartets Dedicated to Haydn” and all sixteen Beethoven String Quartets for Kansas Public Radio are particularly noteworthy. Dedicated to education and community engagement, the quartet’s initiative, “Music Making Minds,” provides music education to underserved communities, fostering a love for classical music among young audiences. The quartet members also serve in various educational capacities, teaching at prestigious institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music, as Artists-in-Residence at The Midwest Trust Center and Educators-in-Residence at the Youth Symphony of Kansas City.

Paul Galbraith, guitar

4 PM, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1700 N. Meridian Rd.

PAUL GALBRAITH PROGRAM-COMING SOON - Sunday, March 29, 2026, 4 p.m.

Guitarist Paul Galbraith is internationally renowned as one of the foremost guitarists of our time. The searching depth of his interpretations, along with his revolutionary playing style and instrument, have made him an instantly recognizable figure in the world of classical music.
Galbraith was named as the 2024 recipient of the Guitar Foundation of America’s Hall of Fame Artistic Achievement Award for “Monumental Contributions to the Development of the Art and Life of the Classical Guitar,” an extraordinary honor that places him alongside Segovia, Julian Bream, and John Williams. Galbraith’s recording of the Complete Bach Violin Sonatas and Partitas was nominated for a GRAMMY in the category of Best Solo Instrumental Album.

Both Galbraith’s playing position and his guitar’s extraordinary design are considered groundbreaking developments in the history of the instrument. The guitar is supported by a metal endpin, similar to that of a cello, which rests on a wooden resonance box. The instrument has two extra strings, one high, one low, increasing its range to an unprecedented extent.
At the age of 17, Galbraith won the Silver Medal at the Segovia International Guitar Competition. Paul was born in Scotland and now resides in Cambridge, England. Galbraith has lived in Basel, Switzerland and São Paulo, Brazil, where he founded the Brazilian Guitar Quartet. He has been a professor at the Music Academy of Basel, the Royal Scottish Conservatoire, Columbus State University in Georgia, and the University of Colorado School of Music, where he taught virtually.

Paul delighted audiences during The Artist Series’ virtual concert season in 2020. We are so glad that he has returned to play for us live!
